Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob explored some of the cutting edges of spirituality in their own recoveries from addiction. Not unlike the mystics of all faiths and times, they sought a direct EXPERIENCE of God rather than settling for mere KNOWLEDGE about God. Two Way Prayer was one of the primary tool they used to draw closer to God as well as to one another. As Bill Wilson later lamented, “… something was lost from A.A. when we stopped emphasizing the morning meditation.”
Once we’ve grown comfortable with the Two Way Prayer practice ourselves, sharing this intimate experience with others becomes a natural next step. Like working the Twelfth Step with newcomers, we come to see the spiritually transforming effect it can have on the lives of others while deepening and strengthening our own practice and level of commitment.
